Charles Williams

Charles Williams is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Labor Studies in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts at the University of Washington Tacoma. He received his Ph.D. from U.C. Berkeley. He teaches courses on US politics and labor studies, including Community and Labor Organizing, The American Presidency, a senior capstone on the New Deal, and Introduction to American Politics. His recent research has included articles on the UAW and American political culture in the 1930s, on John Steinbeck and anti-fascism, and on the politics of alternative economic development in Tacoma, Washington. His current research includes projects on: 1) Labor politics and the 1885 expulsion of the Chinese community in Tacoma; 2) The political economy of economic development in "regional second cities" (including Tacoma); and 3) Utopian novels and the New Left in the United States.
