Dual Immersion Boot Camp for Educators Day 2: New immersion teacher preps

Audience: Elementary Immersion teachers (Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, or other languages)

Location: John Stanford International School 4057 5 Ave NE | Seattle, WA. 98105

6 Free clock hours from OSPI (after you complete the evaluation at the end of the day)

We will have refreshments and lunch provided by the Confucius Institute of the State of Washington. It will be a working lunch.

Cost: No cost. The workshop is hosted by Seattle Public Schools and cosponsored by the Confucius Institute of the State of Washingon and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction World Languages Program.

*Note: A Dual Immersion program is an instructional model that provides content-based instruction to students in two languages where the goal is for the students, over a number of years of participation in the program, to become proficient and literate in both languages, while also meeting high academic standards in all subject areas. Other terminology that is commonly used for one of the variations of this type of program model is Dual Language, Two-way Dual Language, One-way Dual Language, Partial Immersion, Full Immersion, etc. Typically, programs begin at kindergarten or 1st grade and continue through elementary school, and, if possible, into middle and high school.

Goal of the Workshop: To provide hands-on opportunities for current and new immersion teachers and assistants to work together by language, by grade level, and all together to focus in on concrete preparations for the beginning of the school year.

Language facilitators include:

  • Stephanie Chen (Mandarin 2/3 at Beacon Hill International School)
  • Maria Buceta Miller (Spanish 2/3 (formerly K/) at John Stanford International School)
  • Hiromi Pingry (Japanese 2/3 at John Stanford International School)
  • Pollyanna Wang (Mandarin all levels, currently at Denny International Middle School and Chief Sealth International High School)
