The University's Parking & Transportation website is a great first step for any incoming student looking for information regarding parking on campus, Metro Transit passes, and bike storage. As you are figuring out your housing situation, please be sure to consider how you will be getting to and from campus. Connecting with classmates and talking through options might be helpful.
For many incoming students, driving is a default mode of transportation; however, you may want to consider other options while you're at the School of Dentistry. Parking on campus can, unfortunately, be both expensive and inconvenient. The closest parking location to Moos Tower is very convenient (Washington Ave Ramp), but also currently costs up to $15 a day. A more cost effective option is up to $6 a day, but can be about a 10-15 minute walk from Moos Tower (i.e. parking in the Maroon Lot). This may not be a great option when the weather is cold or if you're on campus early or late. There are student parking contacts available, but they are limited, not available to all students, and selected through a random lottery.
Parking on campus can be challenging, but there are other easy and convenient transportation options available. Metro Transit (the Twin Cities public transportation system) has a Green Line light rail stop just outside of Moos Tower and many other bus stops on campus. With your U Card acting as your universal travel pass, you have unlimited access to the regional transit system in the Twin Cities metro area.
Additionally, there are lots of bike racks on campus and Parking & Transportation also has bike lockers available to rent. Gopher Way is also a helpful resource to get around campus while staying indoor. This is helpful if you will be walking to campus and want to walk indoors as much as possible.
