The School of Dentistry uses a program called ExamSoft to give virtual exams. Given our use of ExamSoft and other course needs, you will need a device (computer) when you matriculate to the School of Dentistry in Fall 2025. Your device should meet the ExamSoft and Examplify minimum system requirements. Under your preferred type of operating system, please also be sure that you are looking at the specs under the subheader, "The following requirements apply for exams with ExamID or ExamMonitor enabled" as both ExamID and ExamMonitor may be used in your courses. Please note that you may see the terms ExamSoft and Examplify when reading through device specs. Examplify is the student interface side of ExamSoft, and many users use the terms interchangeably.
The ExamSoft minimum systems requirement link also mentions that iPads can now be used with ExamID and ExamMonitor. However, not all necessary programs have successfully worked on iPads. Therefore, please have a primary device to use Examplify and an iPad, if you so choose, can be a secondary device.
One more note about device needs - As mentioned on the minimum system requirements site, Examplify will not run on Chromebooks, Android, or Linux operating systems. Examplify does not support touchscreen input devices on Mac or Windows laptops.
If you have any questions about these technology requirements, please contact Dr. Kristin Shingler (kshingle@umn.edu) or Mr. Richard Ruth (ruthx008@umn.edu). Just in case the hyperlink above doesn't work properly, here is the Examplify minimum system requirements for Windows and Macs: https://examsoft.com/resources/examplify-minimum-system-requirements.
