MISSION

The mission of Professional Education at SMSU is to create inclusive communities of practice where each learner is an active participant in the investigation of learning, teaching, and leadership processes. Teachers and learners will engage in educational theory, research, inquiry, critical reflection, and application in pursuit of excellence in a culturally responsive education.

Programs Offered

  • Undergraduate licensure in Early Childhood Special Education with Bachelor of Science degree

  • Graduate licensure in Early Childhood Special Education with Master of Science degree.

  • Initial licensing and additional licensing options available at both levels.

  • License only options available

Other Options:

  • ABS License with a Bachelor of Science degree

  • Master of Science Licensures in: Academic Behavioral Strategist, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, Early Childhood Special Education, Emotional Behavioral Disorders, and Specific Learning Disabilities,

  • Master of Science Certificates available in Autism Spectrum Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, Specific Learning Disabilities, Emotional Behavioral Disorders

Program Model

ECSE courses are offered online, other required courses are offered online, hybrid or face-to-face. Field experience placements are in place throughout the program. Student teaching is the culminating requirement in conjunction with the edTPA.

Program Duration

Credits: 120 credits for Bachelor's degree, 34 credits for Master's degree

Average Months to Finish: Four-year degree program
