My main ongoing projects involve language learner strategies and performance in L2 pragmatics. The first involves a new edition of my language learner strategies book, with Routledge Publishers. The second involves a webpage at Indiana University focused on issues related to performing L2 pragmatics – which entails both the comprehension and production of the intentions behind spoken and written language. In other words, the language may be more or less acceptable for the given context, depending on the aims of the person(s) responsible for it. The bottom line is that doing the grammar and vocabulary is only half the challenge; the other half is determining the purpose(s) of the utterance(s) or text(s).
