Research interests: Identification of novel biomarkers for the detection of antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens.
Current Projects: My current research involves the identification of novel biomarkers for the detection of antibioticresistant bacterial pathogens. Specifically, I focus on the metabolic fingerprinting of carbapenemresistant and carbapenemsusceptible Enterobacteriaceae (CRE vs. CSE, respectively) using comprehensive gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. This work has demonstrated that CRE and CSE have distinct metabolic fingerprints across a range of species in vitro, and importantly, in the absence of antibiotic pressure. Current work involves the collection and analysis of transcriptomic and proteomic data to elucidate the biological origins of the metabolites that are differentially produced as a function of antibiotic susceptibility.
