Today's story is "Mustafa" by Marie-Louise Gay. It is our 5th Blue Spruce book (out of 10). We will have videos of the last five books over the next month and a half and then vote for our favourite on Monday June 1st!
Talk to an adult about today's story.
1. Would you give this book a 1, 2 or 3 out of 3? (Remember a 1 means you didn't like it, a 2 means you thought it was okay, and a 3 means you really liked it!) Tell someone why you give it that rating.
2. In the story, Mustafa found joy in many small things like a beautiful leaf, or a flower. What beautiful things from nature do you think are treasures? Do you have a collection of nature's treasures like stones, fossils, or seeds?
3. For most of the story, Mustafa was feeling lonely. Are you feeling that way since we've been asked to stay at home? How could you reach out to your family and friends to connect more?
Mustafa draws pictures in the dirt outside with a stick. We can create pictures using all sorts of materials, not just pencil and paper.
If you have a backyard, can you create pictures outside? Can you use leaves or sticks and stones scattered around your yard to make a picture? Do you have a sandpit? What could you draw in it?
Over the past few months of school, when we read a Blue Spruce book, I would have a rebus puzzle each week for the kids to solve. Here are the first four puzzles that we solved in school. There is a brand new one at the bottom! Try and solve the puzzle with your child. The answer will be posted next week! All the pictures together will spell out a special message!
