PORTRIATS

I have been seeing many of these portraits done with laundry, yes, laundry! They are SO creative. As I was searching for more ideas related to this, I came across this video. Anglea Willets is an artist and art teacher. This video is well done, so I did not think I needed to try to recreate it. It is about 17 minutes long.
If you can, please take some time to watch the video. She offers other suggestions for materials you can use that are NOT typical art materials. I hope you find this creative challenge fun.
Most important, please ask your parents before starting the project. You will need to make sure it is ok to use whatever materials you come up with. I also thought for those of you who like to work with legos, you might try to create a portrait with legos!

Poroprtions of the Face

It is important to understand how to create the appropriate proportions for the face. You don't want your eyes in your forehead! When you begin working on your portrait, keep this in mind.

Please remember to email me a picture of your finished piece!

Paper Quilling

Light weight paper works best. You do not need to have colors, totally white is very interesting.

You will need:

  • paper cut into strips, it works best if they are less than 1/2 inch -1/4 wide.
  • glue
  • paper to glue them down to

Start by trying some shapes from below. Roll the paper into a coil. You can make them tight (close together) or loose (a little more open). Glue the outside end when you have your shape. This will be a circle.

You can make other shapes by pinching the ends. Play around with them. When you have the idea, on another paper, draw a simple object. Make the coil shapes to fit inside the drawing. You will need several to fill an area. There are more ideas below.

These are different shapes you can make.
