PORTRIATS

I have been seeing many of these portraits done with laundry, yes, laundry! They are SO creative. As I was searching for more ideas related to this, I came across this video. Anglea Willets is an artist and art teacher. This video is well done, so I did not think I needed to try to recreate it. It is about 17 minutes long.
If you can, please take some time to watch the video. She offers other suggestions for materials you can use that are NOT typical art materials. I hope you find this creative challenge fun.
Most important, please ask your parents before starting the project. You will need to make sure it is ok to use whatever materials you come up with. I also thought for those of you who like to work with legos, you might try to create a portrait with legos!

Poroprtions of the Face

It is important to understand how to create the appropriate proportions for the face. You don't want your eyes in your forehead! When you begin working on your portrait, keep this in mind.

Please remember to email a picture of your finished piece!

Color Spinners

You will need a piece of cardboard (like from a cardboard box or a gift box, pencil, markers or paint and string.

To make a fairly good circle, trace something like a lid from a container. Don't make it too big. Cut out the circle.

Divide up the area on both sides of the circle and color them.

In the center of the circle, poke 2 holes that are close to one another but not so close that they break through.

Feed one end of the string through each hole and tie the ends together.

Try to make the length of the string on either side the same.

Holding the ends of the string, spin the the whole thing so that the string tightens. Once the string have tightened, pull the strings gently outward to the sides and it will pull back in. Notice the design your colors make.
