These little owls are so cute! If you do not have construction paper, find different kinds of other paper. Maybe grocery store ads or magazine pages. Send me a picture of your creation!

Pop art is an art movement that started in the 1950’s. Artists incorporated common everyday objects—comic strips, soup cans, newspapers, and more—into their work. The Pop art movement shows that art can be inspired from anything.

We have been learning about Pop Artist Jeff Koons. We looked at his balloon dog sculptures. In our artwork we were able to create the illusion of 3D on our object (our dog) by adding highlights to the top areas (white oil pastel) and shadows to the lower areas (darker color). The platform we drew underneath also showed a 3D effect. We drew the buildings in the background to create the illusion of space or distance by making the ones in the front larger with bigger windows and the ones in the middle a little taller and smaller windows, the back are the tallest and the have very small windows.

Activity #1

Look around your house for an object you see every day but may not have really looked at it.

Take a closer look...

What shape is it? Can you draw the shape?

What details do you see? Highlights or shadows? Words, more shapes on it?

Try to draw what you see. It does not need to be perfect. Try your best, that is what is most Important.
