Blockfest!
What is BLOCK Fest? BLOCK Fest is a one-hour interactive group activity where parents and children can explore block play with six different types of blocks.
Why blocks? Research shows that children can learn match concepts and begin math thinking at a very young age. Blocks are a group way to promote math and science through hands-on exploration. Studies have found that early introduction of math concepts and skills improve future understanding of complex ideas in mathematics.
Children learn through play and exploration. That is why the block experience is so helpful in learning math and science concepts such as quantity, classifying, estimating, measurements and the list goes on.
Children need to hear rhymes which are the language and sounds for early literacy development. They also need to develop number sense. Blocks are a great way for children to have fun exploring these math and science concepts.
BLOCK Fest is developed for children ages 8 months to 8 years to experience block play at their appropriate learning levels.
The BLOCK Fest experience is offered throughout the year by the Parents as Teachers program.
