The Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, Philippines coordinated with TESDA Region VII to benchmark the implementation of welding related courses offered by TESDA Registered Technical Vocational Instituions (TVIs) in Cebu last June 29, 2016.

Their Chief Executive Officer Mr. Alfredo T. Li with members Mr. Richard Tan, Mr. Nelson Reyes, Mr. Rico R. Balid and consultant Mr. Lloyd Espiritu of De La Salle University paid a courtesy visit to TESDA Region VII’s newly installed Regional Director, RD Florencio F. Sunico, JR.. They discussed their plans of opening a Tech-Voc Institution in Manila wherein they intend to sponsor and send scholars from Yolanda hit areas for training.

Their visit to Cebu was also to explore possibilities of tapping TESDA Registered TVIs offering Welding and other related qualifications as training providers for the Foundation’s Scholarship programs which will also include deserving Cebuanos to the training

The Technical Vocational Institutions visted by the group were School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor Leadership and Service (SKILLS), Zoie Skills Training and Assessment Center, Inc. and United Global for Professional and Technical Skills, Inc.

TESDA has forged partnerships and linkages with public and private institutions to help in the promotion of TVET and strengthen its implementation of TVET programs in the communitites. This possible partnership with Tzu Chi Foundation could again add more opportunities for the TVET sector in Cebu and most importantly its constituency who will gain skills and raise their chances of employment.

Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1966 by Dharma Master Cheng Yen in the impoverished east coast of Taiwan. The Foundation has been contributing to better social and community services, medical care, education and humanism for nearly 50 years.
