In compliance with its mandate, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) conducted the 2014 Philippine National Skills Competition or PNSC last April 6-11, 2014. More than a hundred competitors in sixteen different trade areas vied for medals and recognition. These competitors were backed and supported by their respective schools/training canters or employers from different regions in the country.
The PNSC is the highest level of skills competition in the country organized by TESDA. The competitors in this level are declared winners of different Provincial Skills Competitions (PSC) in the same region. After which, the top PSC medallists then compete at the Regional Skills Competitions (RSC). The Gold medallist of each trade area earns outright the opportunity to compete and represent region at the national level, in the PNSC.
For the year 2014, the TESDA National Organizing Committee (NOC) identified sixteen different trade areas for competition. The Information Technology (IT) trades, namely, Graphic Design Technology, IT Network Systems Administration, IT Software Solutions for Business, Web Design, IT Network Systems Administration will be held at MFI Foundation, Inc. in Pasig City. Meanwhile, Mechanical Engineering Design-CADD and Mechatronics were hosted by HRDI-Phil-Korea Technological and Cooperation Center located in Taguig City.
Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM), Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (RAC), Electronics and Welding, considered as hard trades will be conducted at the TESDA Regional Training Center in Batangas City. In a separate venue, the Automotive Technology trade will be hosted by Toyota Motors Philippines School of Technology located in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
The five soft trade areas were held in separately in the province of Pampanga. The Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing were held 1010 Salon and Spa, Fashion Technology at Don Bosco Academy-Mabalacat, Cooking at Gonzalo Puyat School of Arts and Trades. The competition for Restaurant Services was hosted by Widus Casino located at the Clark Freeport Zone in Angeles City.
The competitors of this national event are expected to prepare hard and prove their best in the PNSC. They are highly motivated since the gold medallists of this event will have the chance to represent the country in the forthcoming 10th ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) come October this year. It will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam.
