Unit Appeals

Please note that appealing an in class assessment during the Final Unit Appeal will not be accepted if it is lodged after the ten (10) working days appeal period from receipt of the mark.

Final Unit Appeals

If you are appealing your final result for a unit, you should still enrol in the unit for the following study period to avoid any late enrolment fees in case your appeal is unsuccessful. Students have ten (10) working days from the result release date to appeal a final unit result.

If you are successful in your appeal and have already paid for the unit for the proceeding study period, you can receive a refund, please refer to the Refund Policy.

Assessment / Unit Appeals

Upon notification of the mark awarded for an assessment item, a student who believes that their result is incorrect or unfair may submit an appeal against their mark. Students must be aware that when submitting an appeal, the results can be changed either upward or downward.

Assessment Appeals (not including final exam)

  • Informal Appeal of Result - Students may request a review of marks by completing the Application for an Informal Appeal of a Result form. Applications must be submitted to the lecturer for the unit by email within 10 working days of the publication of the marks for the assessment item in question. All parts of the form must be completed and submitted along with the assessment piece that is to be re-evaluated.

  • Formal Appeal of Result - If the appellant is dissatisfied with the outcome from the Informal Appeal of Result, they may apply for a formal appeal by completing an Application for Formal Appeal of Results form. Applications must be submitted within 10 working days of receiving feedback from the Informal Appeal of Result process. All applications for a formal review of result must be submitted to Curtin College Reception, and the appeal will be reviewed by the Program/Academic Coordinator.

  • Appeals Committee - If the appellant is dissatisfied with the outcome of the Formal appeal, they can loge a written appeal to the Appeals Committee via appeals@curtincollege.edu.au within 10 working days of receiving the written notification of the outcome.

  • External Appeal - refer to 5.6 of the Appeal's policy.

Final Result Appeal (including final exam)

  • Formal Appeal of Result - Students who believe that their final result is incorrect or unfair may apply for a formal appeal by completing the online Application for Formal Appeal of Results form. Applications must be submitted within 10 working days of publication of the final results.

  • Appeals Committee - If the appellant is dissatisfied with the outcome of the Formal appeal, they can loge a written appeal to the Appeals Committee via appeals@curtincollege.edu.au within 10 working days of receiving the written notification of the outcome.

  • External Appeal - refer to 5.6 of the Appeal's policy.

Academic Status Appeals

Appealing your Academic Status

If you wish to appeal your Academic Status, you will need to set out in writing the reasons for your request and include relevant documents that support your claim.

An application to appeal your Academic Status must be done in writing and must be accompanied by the Application for a Formal Appeal against Termination and Progress Form. Please note that you have twenty (20) working days* of being notified of your Academic Status.

You can submit your appeals the following ways:

Lodge it at Reception

Scan the form and documents and email them to terminatedappeals@curtincollege.edu.au

* A working day is defined as all days Monday to Friday. However we do not include the 5 day Easter Break, i.e. Good Friday to Easter Tuesday, or the 14 day Christmas/New Year break, i.e. from the Monday of the first week until the Friday of the second week.

Students should submit only one (1) copy of their request to the College. Multiple versions of the same appeal may slow down your appeal decision.

What happens next?

When the College receives your appeal, you will receive an acknowledgement email to your Curtin College email account.

You should continue to enrol, pay fees and attend classes as per normal, however please read the Refund Policy as should your appeal not be successful, you might be subject to some cancellation fees should you have to withdraw from a unit or the Course.

When will the decision be made?

You will receive a response within 10 working days from the date you have submitted your appeal.

If your appeal is successful, you will be able to continue with your study. Please note, if you did not enrol during the appeal period then you will not be automatically re-enrolled if your appeal is successful. You must check your enrolment immediately if your appeal is successful and re-enrol if necessary.

If your appeal is unsuccessful and you are not satisfied with the result or the conduct of the formal appeal process you may request that your appeal be considered by an person or body independent of, and external to, the College. You will be notified of this process in the outcome of the appeal notification.
