The statues on Easter Island have been the subject of intrigue and mystery for hundreds of years. The prehistoric people of Easter Island carved the giant statues in their quarries, then transported them all over the island. On average, these statues are 10 tons (9,000 kg), while the largest statue, Paro, is a hefty 82 tons (74,000 kg) and is 9.9 meters tall! Many historians debate how they were to move the statues up to 10 km without the use of sophisticated machines, with many whimsical theories about the energy source needed to move them.
Essential Question: How were these statues moved using only primitive means?
