Tim Broadbent - Curate, September 2020
Hi, I’m Tim, I’m really looking forward to joining you at St Mary’s, Becontree. I was born in London and grew up in Croydon. I’ve had a few jobs since I left school, they include: car washer, hotel porter, telesales department administrator, football coach, music venue promoter, radio station manager, labourer, courier, and a youth worker. These are the things I like: Crystal Palace F.C., running, reading, playing games with my kids, growing things to eat, seeing friends, going to Church and making lists. These are things I don’t like: pollution, marmite, injustice, COVID-19, and not getting enough sleep.
I’m married to Hannah and we have two young kids, Toby and Asa. I’ve just completed a Master at St Augustine’s College and I’m really looking forward to the end of lockdown so I can join you in Parish of St Mary, Becontree. :)

Are ordinands just like buses? You wait and wait until two come along at once. I am joining my sister Cecilia in training at St. Mellitus College in Chelmsford preparing for ordination to be a priest.
I was licenced as a Reader in 1998 after God called me to this ministry and I have served him faithfully here at St. Mary’s since then. When I retired from nursing, I felt God calling me to something else. Following the discernment process and successfully passing my Bishop’s Advisory Panel I started my training in September.
I am a Dagenham lad, so the plan is that I will stay serving at St. Mary’s when I am ordained. God is good and I am looking forward to what he has in store for me here.

Good News – I have been accepted as an ordinand, to train at St. Mellitus
From an early age, I recognized that God called me to know and serve him. Over the decades, in my journey of faith, I have enjoyed serving the Lord wherever he leads me.
During my time here in St. Mary’s this has taken various twist and turn, last year, this took a different dimension. Before that, various leaders had encouraged me to explore the ordained ministry.
Supported by my Family, Rev. Katie Miller and St. Mary’s Leadership/PCC I began a process of Discernment. Through study, discussions, prayers and meeting with the Bishop’s Advisory Panel in May, I am being sponsored by the Bishop of Barking to train for ordination. I will be training at St. Mellitus in September.
I am excited, with some degree of apprehension but God is faithful. I continue to pray for God leading as I journey on. I thank everyone who has been and continue to be part of this journey with me. I will value your prayers for the days/years ahead.
