Year 6 Shine a Light on Shadows!
This week, Year 6 demonstrated their fantastic scientific investigation skills as they explored the topic of light and shadows. The children began by learning how shadows are formed and discussing the relationship between a light source, an object and the shadow it creates. They then took on the role of scientists, working collaboratively in groups to plan, conduct and evaluate their investigation.
Each group carefully planned their experiment and created an A1 poster presentation. Their posters included all the key elements of a scientific investigation and they looked fantastic, demonstrating an excellent understanding of how to carry out an investigation accurately and effectively.
Once their plans were complete, the children conducted their investigations, carefully measuring and recording their results. They showed great teamwork and attention to detail as they collected accurate data and observed how changing the distance between the light source and the object affected the size of the shadow. To present their findings, the children used graphs to display their results clearly and effectively. They then analysed their data and evaluated their investigations, drawing conclusions based on the evidence they had gathered.
It was wonderful to see Year 6 working so scientifically, asking thoughtful questions, making predictions and using evidence to support their conclusions. Their A1 posters showcased not only their scientific knowledge but also their creativity and presentation skills. Well done, Year 6 for another brilliant investigation and for shining a light on the science behind shadows!
