Journeying with Christ

Looking ahead to the Sixth Sunday of Easter, we hear Jesus reassuring his disciples that he won't be with them forever, he will need to go away. He reassures them that they will have the power of the Holy Spirit to remind them of his words and actions, to strengthen their faith. We can still feel the power and encouragement of God's spirit today, especially when we have to leave our homes and loved ones.

We discussed together this week how travelling away from our home and family is a very normal part of our lives - everyday we leave home and travel to school. However, we can still feel the loving warmth of our family in our healthy friendships, our trusted adults and our collective worship routines.

C - 6th Easter

Prickly Surprises...

Year 1 were very excited by a special visitor on Tuesday. Graham from St Francis Animal Care brought in his hedgehogs, Harry and Henry. It was such a joyous experience considering a lot of children had never seen a real life hedgehog before! During the session, the children learnt all about hedgehogs - where they live, what they like to eat, when they hibernate, how they find their food, etc. The children agreed that the most surprising fact was that adult hedgehogs have over 5,000 spikes! We're looking forward to some fun hedgehog sentence writing now...

Amazing Algorithms!

In year 3 we have been writing algorithms using Scratch. We put the building blocks together to create sequences using movement and sound, alongside different starting methods. We had a lot of fun and created a variety of outcomes!

Jumping into Action and Serving Up Skills

This week in PE, our Year 6 classes have been showing fantastic energy and determination across a variety of sports. Class 6F focused on athletics, practising high and long jump techniques, along with relay races where they mastered baton passing- special mention to Matthew, Hugo, and Brodie for demonstrating impressive resilience throughout. Class 6O took to the junior playground for a tennis session, developing their ball control and rallying skills. Max stood out for his excellent focus and consistency during rallies- well done! Meanwhile, 6B explored key elements of cricket, including close and deep catching and overarm bowling. Jayden shone in cricket for his noticeable progression, excellent sportsmanship, and respectful attitude- great work from all involved!

Abstract Art

It's Art Week in Year 5 this week and we're getting our hands dirty with clay as we endeavour to create sculptures which represent an abstract noun. We began the week with some research into famous sculptures and their sculptors and then we sketched out some possible designs for our own creation. These pictures show us mid-week exploring the feel and malleability of clay and how we can use tools to create different effects. The end of the week is the coming together of our final piece and our evaluation of the project.

WANTED - Evil Pea

The Evil Pea visited Reception this week! The children loved coming to school each morning and seeing what Evil Pea had been up to, he stole our pencils, tipped chairs upside down and even broke the big screens in our classrooms! This inspired lots of creativity from the children! They made their own wanted posters for the Evil Pea and we were so impressed with the independent writing. Some children even painted their own Supertato and made their own versions of super vegetables. What a brilliant week!

The Voice of Angels

On Wednesday afternoon, a group of children from Year 3 participated in a Choral Afternoon at St Joseph’s Church, Guildford with three other Catholic schools in the diocese. The event was a culmination of many weeks of work delivered in the schools by Choral Director, Fraser Ellson. A repertoire of liturgical music, folk songs and hymns were rehearsed, with parents invited to attend the performance later in the afternoon. All the children worked together exceptionally well and sang beautifully.

St Peter's Class have become published authors! Attached are a few excerpts from the book we have created together, published by a company called ‘Our Class Book’. We can't wait to read your next publication!

5 Little Ducks...

Continuing with our life cycle theme, the Nursery has been a hive of excitement with the arrival of some duck eggs. The children were watching the eggs in the incubator with great anticipation, waiting for them to hatch.

There were lots of discussions about ducklings, eggs and the equipment used, generating lots of new language for the children. Once the ducklings had fully hatched, the children were gentle and calm, showing empathy and curiosity. The children took turns to hold the ducklings and were entertained while watching them swim!

Year 2 to the rescue!

This week the children in Year 2 have been busy making emergency vehicles! As part of the DT curriculum, children need to research, design, make and evaluate something for a purpose. We got to work thinking about the sorts of vehicles we could make (imaginative ones of course!) and then made them in line with our success criteria, such as they must be able to move with wheels, they must be able to withstand water. Once painted, the children added their finishing touches on and we had great fun testing the vehicles outside!

Party Time!

This week the children have been busy planning their own superhero party! To get ready we need to write our own shopping lists and go to the Co-Op to buy food and drinks. The children loved the experience of choosing items and using cash to pay, this made them feel very responsible! We cannot wait for our party on Friday!

3C Lead the Way

St Christopher's Class led a beautiful worship this week, focused on the theme of journeys. We heard again how Jesus prepare to leave his disciples, to return to his Father but reassured his friends that God's Holy Spirit would be with them to help and protect them on their journeys to spread the Good News. The children performed a wonderful rendition of "Walk with me, Oh my Lord!" as a reminder that Jesus always walks alongside us, wherever we go. God bless you 3C - a very special end to the week!

Wonderful Witnesses

Congratulations to this week's host of Witness Award winners - leading the way this week by showing the school community how they have been journeying through their school life in a positive and faithful way. Well done and God bless you children!
