Christ Promotes Prudence

In Celebration of the Word this week, we looked ahead to the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time where we heard the parable of the Rich Man & Lazarus. Christ teaches his followers that the wisdom of scripture has been shared with humanity throughout generations to help us make wise choices.

We learn that, when we can discern the will of God, we are called to respond appropriately, making the prudent choice (even if that's difficult).

Children told us this week that they have had to make the difficult, prudent choice: reading 4 times per week (to become a fluent reader), practising their number skills (to feel confident in maths lesson) and avoiding play fighting at break times (because it isn't safe).

Spag Lessons

Year 4 have been working incredibly hard since the start of term revising their grammar skills, with a special focus on the 8 parts of speech. It’s been fantastic to see their progress and enthusiasm grow as they explore nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, conjunctions, prepositions, and determiners.

Today was a highlight for Year 4, as they enjoyed a particularly fun lesson playing a game of Heads Up in their groups. This interactive game helped them quickly identify different parts of speech in a lively and engaging way.

Afterwards, the students used whiteboards to create a “human sentence” where they stood in order and verbally identified each part of the sentence. This hands-on activity really helped deepen their understanding and made learning grammar an enjoyable experience for everyone (which is no mean feat!)

Nursery in the Balance

In Nursery this week, the children have been learning to move in various ways across the balancing equipment. They’ve been walking, crawling, stretching, and jumping as they explored how their bodies can move and balance. From stepping stones to balance beams, each piece of equipment encouraged them to try something new and challenge themselves.

The children showed great focus and determination as they carefully made their way across. Some used their arms to steady themselves, while others discovered new ways to balance by crouching low or moving slowly and deliberately. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow with each attempt!

These types of activities are not only fun but also support important physical development. They help improve coordination, core strength, and spatial awareness—all through play. Most importantly, the children had lots of fun while learning new skills and building resilience.

Stone Age Post

Year 3 have been enjoying the book 'Stone Age Boy' in their English lessons. After looking at the illustrations closely and learning about the tasks stone age people carried out, the children imagined they were back in the stone age and wrote an exciting postcard home telling their family all about it. Following their 'Steps to Success' to include adjectives and fronted adverbials, children drafted their postcard independently. After editing their work in the next lesson, everyone was very proud of their final copy - the first piece of work in their red presentation books.

P is for perfect pumpkin potions!

Reception children learned the ‘p’ sound this week and thoroughly enjoyed exploring pumpkins. Using spoons, playdough tools and cutters, they investigated the hard outer layer and enjoyed scooping out the gooey middle!

Care for our World

This week in Year 2 we have been learning about being a good steward. The children all wrote a pledge of one thing they were going to try and do more of to be a good steward. After that they created posters, advising people of how to care for our common home, the Earth. We finished by making bird food to take home and put outside.

Fantastic Gymnastics

Year 1 have been exploring how to hold balances in gymnastics this week. We learnt about squeezing our muscles to make our bodies tense, and staying as still as a statue for five seconds. We placed beanbags on different parts of our bodies and explored whether we could hold them there while holding a balance, remembering to tense our muscles. Finally, we put these skills into a sequence with different travelling movements and performed these to each other. Well done Year 1 on your great perseverance and creativity!
