Learner Agency

Purpose:  To support ākonga to have agency in directing their own learning and become more self-actualising. 

Delivery:  In order to enable agentic learning, the teaching team provides stimulating learning opportunities that provoke and inspire ākonga to lead their learning in areas they are passionate about.  Learning environments are inclusive and engaging, and cater to the needs of the diverse learners present.  Kaiako are clear about their role in an agentic learning space, supporting, challenging, and questioning students in a rich learning environment.  Feedback is given from kaiako, learning assistants and peers. 

Pedagogy:The following practices will occur at all levels:

• Ākonga will self manage at the level they are ready for, and be actively engaged in their learning.

• Students learn to identify their strengths and next steps, and grow their understanding of how they learn best

• Students will participate actively in setting goals in their learning

• Students are encouraged to find their ‘best fit for learning’ depending on the context of learning.  Ākonga will have opportunities to collaborate with others, or learn alone.  Students may be in a classroom, or they may be utilising our flexible learning spaces.  

• Students will become increasingly able to manage their learning environment to enhance their learning potential through increased self awareness

• Students will be exposed to and supported to strengthen a growth mindset way of thinking
