Health and Physical Education
This course provides instruction that helps students understand and accept themselves physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Physical activities include conditioning activities, team sports, recreational activities, and rhythmical activities. Instruction is also given in CPR to meet graduation requirement if student did not complete in 8th grade.
Physical Development
Prerequisite: Health/PE
The goal of Physical Development is to develop the body in the areas of strength, quickness, agility, balance, speed, endurance and kinesthetic awareness. Course activities include extensive strength training, agility, flexibility exercises, accelerated calisthenics, and competitive situations.
Fitness for Life
Prerequisite: Health/PE
This course is designed to use cross training as an optimum route to fitness. Activities include aerobics, running, interval training and weight lifting. Basic anatomy and physiology pertaining to fitness are also taught.
Physical Education I/II
Prerequisite: Health/PE
The emphasis of this course is on advanced physical education skills and techniques, which enable the student to play with a greater degree of skill and satisfaction.
Sports Medicine
Prerequisite: Health/PE
Sports Medicine is designed for students interested in fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, fitness, physiology of exercise, kinesiology, nutrition, and other sports medicine related fields. The first year includes class work and practical hands-on application in the following areas: prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries, taping and wrapping of injuries, first aid/CPR, emergency procedures, and sports medicine careers.
Athletics and Field Maintenance
Prerequisite: Health/PE
This course is designed with an emphasis on developing skills and knowledge associated with the following activities: officiating games, tournament organization, field and court lay-out, maintenance of sports facilities, and analysis of techniques and performance associated with team/individual sports.
