Thank you for your interest in Chief Petty Officer Academy

CPO Academy is for cadets ready to rank up to Chief or new Chiefs. CPOA is completed in TWO PHASES (and TWO separate Magellan courses).   NOTE:  In 2024 Phase I and Phase II may be taken out of order.

• PHASE I is four virtual training days spread out over several weeks combining formal instruction with student led discussions. Over the course of the virtual portion students will develop an essay and work together on assignments. Learn what it means to wear the Chief uniform and how to become an effective Chief. 

• Phase II is an in-person training for a minimum of two days (locations, costs, and number of days will vary from course to course).  

If you think you are ready for this course and you want to apply for a quota, please register via Magellan and look for course Leadership/Professional Development, Chief Petty Officer Academy.  The ONLY paperwork required is a standard NSCTNG001 Training Requestion Authorization and CO recommendation that you are ready for Chief level training (upload to Magellan).

Please review this event website on CPOA expectations, available courses, and how to enroll.  (Your quota request is dependent on availability but will NOT be set to "APPROVED" until the Training CO has determined you meet eligibility and you completed the application process).
