This week bridges thermal and light energy.

Monday

We focus on the three ways that heat can travel

1. conduction: direct contact is needed

2. radiation: when thermal energy comes from a source

3. convection: the cycling of thermal energy, due to density and molecule speed

Attached is some reading that covers this topic.

Tuesday

After having hands on experiences with conductors and insulators during the science lab rotation, we will take a look at them in class.

Conductors allow energy to freely pass through ( common examples: metal, foil, water)

Insulators slow the passing of energy ( common examples: rubber, plastic, wood, glass, Styrofoam)

Wednesday

Early release day!

Today we will elaborate on the uses of thermal energy by exploring Geothermal Energy as an alternative energy resource.

Attached is some reading that we will explore in class.

Thursday

We will switch from thermal energy to another form of energy; a form that is often produced, or does produce, thermal energy

Light energy! During class we will read and create a journal entry while exploring how light interacts with various materials.

Friday

We will have our usual Friday assessment. There will be ten vocabulary words on this assessment, most of which have been used on previous assessments. Please visit the vocabulary section of my site to learn more abut this weeks vocabulary
