We will be focusing on light energy all week!

Light Energy: a form of light that can be seen, travels in a straight line until it strikes an object or travels through one medium to another, and can be:

    • reflected ( bounced off of a shiny surface like a mirror, something shiny, or something brightly colored such as white or yellow)

    • refracted ( when light energy bends, and looks broken. This happens because light energy has to slow down as it enters a solid like glass, or a liquid like water or oil. Light travels SUPER FAST through air!)

    • absorbed (taken or sucked in! This is how we can tell color! A blue object absorbs and takes in all of the colors, but reflect blue back into our eyes!)

sources: There are many sources of light energy such as-- the sun, lamps, computers, microwaves, lightening, and phosphorescent animals. Sometimes, light energy can be produced ( made) by other forms of energy ( such as electricity when it comes to computers and lamps, or thermal when it comes to fire)

All week we will be having mini hands on experiments where we observe how light energy interacts with various materials. IF YOU HAVE FLASHLIGHT AT HOME, AND PUT YOUR STUDENTS NAME ON IT, I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO LET THEM BRING IT TO SCHOOL THIS WEEK!!!

I will attach many readings and journal entries as we complete them throughout the week.
