This week will be a wrap up of light energy, a review of certain skills, a district benchmark #2 testing day, and an introductory look at electrical energy.
Attached is a copy of the warm-up for the week and a light energy journal entry from last week.
Also attached is a copy of our science strategy as well as two examples as to how to use these strategies with questions. This strategy is used daily in class when we check our homework or do our warm-ups.
ON Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we will review not only light energy, but all of the TEKS that will be tested on Thursday benchmark
BENCH MARK #2 FROM THE DISTRICT will be administered this Thursday.
Below are the listed TEKS that will be tested:
5.5 A: classify matter based on physical properties, including mass, magnetism, physical state (solid, liquid, and gas), relative density (sinking and floating), solubility in water, and the ability to conduct or insulate thermal energy or electric energy;
5.5C demonstrate that some mixtures maintain physical properties of their ingredients such as iron filings and sand;
5.5D identify changes that can occur in the physical properties of the ingredients of solutions such as dissolving salt in water or adding lemon juice to water.
5.6Aexplore the uses of energy, including mechanical, light, thermal, electrical, and sound energy;
I will also be attaching example questions of each TEK that I have pulled from released STAARs given in previous years.
Friday we introduce electricity! We will explore what it is, how it is made, and some ways in which it can be applied ( for instance through lightening strikes or shocking one another after rubbing our feet on the carpet).
There will be no assessment this Friday, since we are taking the benchmark on Thursday.
Next week we will resume our vocabulary quizzes.
UPDATE:
I have attached a copy of the 5th Grade Parent Curriculum Night power point. This power point IS ALSO ATTACHED ON MY HOMEPAGE.
