Thesis Statements

A thesis statement is YOU writing your position on a topic plus TWO REASONS (or claims) .

Examples:

• Metal baseball bats should be banned because they make the ball travel too fast and cause injuries. 
  Position:  Metal bats should be banned;  Reason 1:  They make the ball travel too fast;  Reason 2:  They cause injuries.
  
  

• Driverless taxis should not be permitted because they technology isn't safe for public streets and they cause unnecessary traffic jams.
  Position:  Driverless taxis should not be permitted;  Reason 1: The technology isn't safe;  Reason 2: They cause traffic jams
  
  

• Cell phones should be banned in school because they distract students from their studies and they cause kids to be more isolated at school.
  Position: Cell phones should be banned at schools; Reason 1:  they distract students;  Reason 2:  they cause kids to be isolated.
