Lab Rooms can be dangerous if rules are not followed:
1. Following Lab Safety directions is the most important rule. A lab safety contract will be distributed, reviewed and signed by the student and their parent.
2. Shoes must be worn at all times.
3. No food may be eaten during class and lab activities . Unless specific permission has been given, no food may be eaten during any class in this lab room.
4. Stay seated during class and lab activities, unless you are obtaining lab materials.
5. No Phones ( or similar electronic devices). This is a school-wide rule .Phones and similar electronic devices are a distraction, and can be a safety hazard in lab. They are not permitted to be out. Phones must be put into the backpack at the bell and may not be taken out until the bell rings for the end of class.
- A detention will be assigned if the phone is not in the backpack during class. Parents will be contacted.
- Any addition violation will result in the confiscation of the phone. It will be turned over to the Vice Principal, who will assign consequences and contact parents.
6. Class starts when the bell rings. You are READY to start class: homework is done, your pencil is sharpened before the bell, you notebook is out and your computer is ready.
7. Talk at appropriate times. Talk with you lab group members during activities, be quiet during instructions and brief lectures.
8. All work must be done on time. Homework will not be accepted late. Lab reports will be accepted late, but points will be deducted. Also, lab reports will not be accepted if more than two weeks late. Absences do not cause point deductions if work is submitted in a reasonable time-frame. Make up labs must be completed within two weeks of a missed lab because materials may not be available after that time. Make up labs may be available after school. If possible, they may be completed during regular class time.
9. Copying work is cheating. When working in a lab group, students are expected to do their fair share of the work. Students who are found to be neglecting their lab group may be required to work independently.
10. High Quality work is expected: no ripped papers, blue or black ink, and completed work.
11. Work must be completed as directed. Most work will be given on a web site, but will be completed on paper and hand-written. It may not be typed or emailed unless instructed. Work is submitted with the following format :
Name Date
Period Title Chemistry
12. Be on Time to class: On time means that you are in the classroom when the bell rings. Every "Late" will be recorded. You will receive a detention for every third time that you are late to class.
13. Do the Science Work Assigned. Work on science, in science . Work from other classes should not be done in science class.
14. No work = No re-test. If the work required for test preparation is not completed before the test is taken, no retest will be permitted. Retests will be scheduled during the Bulldog activity period. These are the only opportunities for a retest. Retest should be rare.
