Mrs. Amanda Kenney began working with the Seward music program in the fall of 2016. As an alumni of Seward High School, Mrs. Kenney is very excited to return to SHS! Mrs. Kenney has a wide range of musical experiences, having performed as a soloist, accompanist, and jazz pianist, as well as playing clarinet in symphonic and wind band settings, and marching as a Color Guard member in high school and college marching bands.
After graduating from Hastings College, Mrs. Kenney began her teaching career at Sutton Public Schools, serving as the K-12 Vocal Music Instructor from 2005-2008. After moving to Lincoln in 2008, Mrs. Kenney worked at Christ United Methodist Church as the Office Administrator, and in 2010, began directing the Children's Choir for students in kindergarten through 5th grades. In 2014, she added Youth Choir for students in 6th through 12th grades. She continued directing these choirs until December 2016. Mrs. Kenney also maintains an active private studio, offering piano and voice lessons to students of all ages.
Mrs. Kenney received her Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, graduating in the summer of 2020. Amanda and her husband, Chris, have been married for over 20 years and have three children, Nicole, Sam, and Tim.
