4 Year Plan & Scheduling

When building a 4-year plan and yearly schedule, we encourage students to challenge themselves appropriately and to pursue areas of interest that are unique to them. Appropriate rigor in a schedule should allow a student to push themselves, while maintaining a healthy sleep schedule, school-life balance, and participation in extra-curricular activities. Due to the nature of the 4x4 schedule at SDA, students will be able to meet and exceed the SDUHSD high school graduation requirements, as well as, the UC/CSU A-G requirements.

4-Year Plan

One important tool for building an appropriately challenging schedule is to create a 4-year plan. This tool allows a student and their family to map out how they will meet the SDUHSD Graduation Requirements and UC/CSU A-G Requirements, while also factoring in space to create balance in the schedule. As well, students often realize they have room throughout the four years to progressively challenge themselves.

While building a 4-year plan, students should consider their personal interests, abilities, and motivation. This plan can be adjusted throughout a student's time at SDA as their goals and interests grow.

4-Year Plan Presentation

Counselors present information on how to build an effective 4-year plan in the Introduction to Technology course during 9th grade. We've created a video for students and families so they can review the information together. Or if you'd like to just view the slideshow click here.

AP and Honors Information

Many students at SDA will elect to take Advanced Placement (AP) and/or Honors courses throughout their 4-years at SDA. These courses offer an additional level of challenge. For more information about Advanced Placement and Honors courses click here. If a student still has questions about whether an AP or Honors course is a good fit, they should reach out to a teacher of the course or in the department of the course they are considering. As well, SDA school counselors are always happy to discuss scheduling with students
