State/Growth Score

Student Scores

The student score portion of your evaluation score will be determined by the approved plan (see plan and presentation on our APPR slide for more information). This score will calculated for you based upon the agreed upon method as listed in the plan. However, if you teach a course ending in a state exam other than ELA or Math 3-8, you will need to complete an SLO. Please read Student Learning Objectives below.

State Growth Scores

NYS will continue to provide Growth Scores for educators in 4-8 Math and ELA. There is a moratorium on using these scores in teacher evaluation until the 2020. Schalmont will continue to recieve and share these scores with teacher at the end of August.

Student Learning Objectives - Courses Ending in a State Exam (except 3-8 ELA & Math)

Teachers of courses that end in a Regents or NYS Exam (except 3-8 ELA and Math until 2020) must complete and SLO for that course. SED has selected Student Learning Objectives (SLO) as the tool to measure the student achievement growth during a course. SLOs measure growth by giving students a pre and post-assessment to determine the value the educator added during the period of instruction. The educator and their evaluator will agree upon a baseline (where the student is currently) and a target (where the student will end up) for each individual student. The targets will be used to establish and overall goal for the course. This goal should measure the most essential learning in the course. To learn more information, please visit the link below.

The documents below are used by teachers who are not provided with a State Growth Score to set their targets. Please note the directions tab for further guidance.

How to determine what course(s) you will have an SLO for. SLOs are determined by course, not class.

SLOs have been written for each course and are stored in Rubicon. Below is a blank template that should be used when generating a new SLO.

Sample SLOs from SED - There are a number of videos to help explain SLOs as well as specific informaton related to librarians and those teachers working with populations who are taking the new alternative assessments.

SLO Exemplars from EngageNY - SED has posted a number of exemplars 2012-2013 from a variety of areas.
