Area, Surface Area, and Volume of circles and cylinders

Investigation:

Step 1: Find three different circular objects (or cylinders). Measure the distance across the center of each circular object in millimeters. Record it in a spreadsheet as "d".

Step 2: Wrap a piece of string around the circular object until it meets the beginning and cut the string. Measure the string in millimeters to find the distance around the object. Record all measurements on the spreadsheet as "C".

Step 3: For each object divide "C" by "d". What do you notice?

Surface Area of a Cylinder

and a height of 5 inches. A wax coating covers the cheese wheel to keep

the cheese fresh. How much surface area must the wax coating cover?
