Area

Definition: The number of square units needed to cover a figure. Area is measured in units such as square inches (in²), square feet (ft²), square centimeters (cm²), and square meters (m²).

Area of a rectangle: length x width

For example: a rectangle that is 2 inches wide by 3 inches high = 6 square inches

2 in x3 in = 6 in²

Area of a square: length²

For example: a square that is 5 inches long on each side = 5² = 25 square inches or 25 in²
