4/23/24

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Students are working on their essay on Sparta. This past week they worked on planning out each paragraph with graphic organizers (one paragraph a day). Today they will begin to copy/paste over their work into an essay document in MLA format. IF anyone is behind they need to catch up ASAP at home. Students can also see me Thursday in the library for tutoring/help after school. The final essay needs to be submitted by Friday the 26th.

On Thursday we will be Kahooting it to review for their Unit 4 Exam on Monday the 29th. All study guides need to be completed by then in order for them to be prepared for the test. Students were given their study guides to prepare in the Google Classroom on March 25th so they will have had a month to work on it at home for homework. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pierce

3/27/24

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Students are now working on Unit 4 on the Ancient Hebrews and Greece. All assignments except for map work will be in the Google Classroom along with due dates etc. It is very important students complete/turn in their work to get credit. Some students might have a great grade due to doing so well on the tests (where they are allowed to use their study guides that have the answers while taking the test). However, if they have many incomplete/missing assignments, their CITIZENSHIP GRADE will be severely affected.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Late work is accepted up into the end of a grading period. After that period any late work will not be allowed.

1/22/24

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to 6th grade Social Studies. I'm Mrs. Pierce, your child's teacher.  Please read the syllabus for the class and fill out the Google Form so I know you have read and understood it.

We will be doing all work in the Google Classroom. We will be doing work by Unit. Unit 1 is very short so it will go by quickly.  All tests will be unit tests and test dates are already posted. Students have three homework assignment per unit. One is a map activity and one an economics activity, both given on a different week and students get a week to work on each. The main one is their unit study guide. They need to read the textbook and use it (NOT the internet) to answer the questions. They need to be completed by the test date and students may use them while taking the test. The questions are open-ended versions of the test questions that are multiple choice. We will play the review game Kahoot.it each day before the test to review. Students have anywhere from 2-3 questions to answer each day in order to complete it by the test date. So it is very important that they start early. Since students are given the questions for the test and can use the study guides while taking the test students do not get to retake the test if they didn't take the opportunity to be prepared.

If you have any questions please let me know. Below are the assignments for Unit 1:
