College Rep Visits

Meet with College Reps at FHS

College admissions representatives across the US and Canada will share valuable information about their institutions throughout the months of September, October and into early November. Attending these sessions will help you learn about their application process, academics, campus culture and more.

Frequently Asked Questions:

• How long are the visits? These short 30 minute (or less) info sessions allow students to learn about each college application process, academics, and campus culture followed by a Q&A.

• Why should I attend? Consider attending if you are serious about the school or genuinely curious to see if it would be a good fit for you. This is especially important to attend if you can’t tour their campus in person.

• How many students typically attend? It all depends! Typically there are 2-5 students. Other times it may be one-on-one with the rep. Room locations are subject to change depending on the size of the group.

• Ask the important questions that matter to you! Sample questions:

  • What makes your college different from other schools?

  • What do students love most about going here?

  • What are your most popular majors?

  • Are there any campus traditions the school is known for?

  • What internship and career opportunities are available?

• Can I miss a class to attend a college rep visit? Yes, if you are applying to them. However, you cannot miss class if you are missing a quiz or test. Prior to attending, you will need a pass or email from Ms. Armes in guidance in order to attend one of our sessions.

• What do I wear? Dress like you would show up to work, appropriately.

• Which colleges are planning a visit to FHS? Interested juniors and seniors should sign up using this form or use our iPad in the Guidance Office. Please check back frequently as we continue to add and update our list of visiting colleges throughout the fall. 

• Where can I get more information? Check for reminder emails from Ms. Armes or swing by the guidance office. If you cannot attend a session, Ms. Armes can help you get connected with the rep to ask questions. We can also request brochure materials to be set aside for you.

How to prepare for a rep visit:

• Identify your non-negotiables when considering colleges and allow that list to guide you as you listen during these info sessions.

• Do a quick search about the college beforehand so you can have a more meaningful conversation. It's not always necessary but it's great if you have a few questions prepared.

• If you find a college that resonates with you, try and visit the campus in person. If it's a financial stretch to travel there, be sure to ask if there is financial assistance available. Some colleges have been known to cover transportation and lodging fees! Once you have boots on the ground, you will know if it's going to be the right fit for you.
