Rehearsals help us accomplish our mission as a group:
1) To teach you to be a better musician
2) To expand your awareness of Western culture and music history
3) To serve the three communities of RSU #4 through music
4) To represent Oak Hill High School in your local communities and throughout the state
A good rehearsal is structured as follows:
1) A warm-up of about 1/5 the total rehearsal time
2) Skill-building in note reading, rhythm reading, and sight-reading
3) Learning new music (or sections of music)
4) Reviewing previously-learned music
5) Measuring how well you have learned the music and skills in the class (assessment)
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN REHEARSAL INCLUDE:
1) Arriving on time with all your music and a pencil.
2) Listening carefully to all the work that is taking place, even when your own section is not being asked to perform.
3) Participating to the best of your ability at all times.
4) Raising your hand if you have a question or comment to share.
5) Avoiding any conversation which is irrelevant to the accomplishment of the goals for the day,
except when the director has suspended the rehearsal.
6) Respecting the efforts of others by:
a. encouraging others whenever appropriate.
b. being silent and inconspicuous when others are trying to work.
c. avoiding doing anything which might distract the director or other musicians.
d. staying focused on achieving the goals for the day, and doing nothing which might disrupt the rehearsal.
