What is DECA?
Founded in 1946, Distributive Education and DECA has had a major impact on and influenced the lives of millions of students, teachers, administrators and businessmen and women across the United States. The curriculum and youth organization have prepared students to become emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and universities around the world. Texas DECA is a charter member of National DECA.
DECA is co-curricular and is an integral part of the classroom instructional program. DECA allows members and instructors to participate in educational and leadership activities that incorporate classroom instruction with skills that are learned in a successful career/business environment. Merging classroom theory with business situations allows students to develop skills that will carry over into their professional and personal life after high school graduation.
DECA helps students to develop skills for successful business careers, build self–esteem, experience leadership and practice community service. DECA members create friendships with like–minded people from all over the world at career and leadership conferences and build resumes that move them to the top of the job and college application list.
