Other than the NUMEROUS benefits of being involved in a Music Elective, band offers many instrument choices that fit a variety of personality types. Once you've learned your instrument, you'll get to play some really FUN music!
No! We will teach you everything you need to know from the ground up. No prior musical experience required!
Yes! We work with the coaches in 7th and 8th grade to make sure that everyone can experience as many extracurricular activities as possible.
For the beginning bands, we have two after school practices right before each of our concerts, one in the fall, and one in the spring. In the advanced bands, we do have a required before or after school rehearsal once per week, though we will work around everyone's schedule when determining the date and time of each of those rehearsals.
For certain very expensive instruments, the school will provide an instrument for a small, yearly fee. Those instruments are as follows: Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Euphonium, and Tuba. Any other instrument will need to be rented from a local music store or purchased through other means. More information about specific brands will follow once you are placed on your instrument.
We have an in person instrument tryout process in March. At that tryout you will have the opportunity to go around to all the instruments and get to know them. We'll have an interview sheet that we'll take notes for you! You'll turn in those notes before you leave and we'll email to set up a google meet to discuss your tryout and pick your final instrument.
Yes! We have full info on our band page: Future Members. There's also some more videos of the instruments we offer!
If you already have experience playing and taking lessons on a band instrument, then we will ask that you take the same audition that our incoming 7th and 8th graders take. We will place you in the appropriate band from that audition.
