Riverton School's SEEK Program
(Student Enrichment Extension of Knowledge Program)
Program Description
Riverton School's Gifted and Talented program is known as SEEK. This identifies and provides enrichment for students in all grades. Identification procedures are in place for students beginning in Kindergarten.
Reading and Language Art challenges are offered in the regular education classroom setting through the guided reading and the writer’s workshop programs. All students are provided with reading materials at their individual level.
Algebra I is offered to 8th grade students who demonstrate strong math skills.
All high scoring (advanced proficient) 6th and 7th graders are invited to participate in the CTY Talent search as 7th and 8th graders. Through this program they can take the SAT and/or ACT and qualify for summer programs offered through Johns Hopkins.
Other opportunities open to all interested or eligible students are: Science Fair, Spelling Bee, Chorus, Art Club, Chess Club, Scrabble Club, Drama, Violin, Tech Club, and the 8th grade Environmental Education Camping Trip. Please note: These programs vary depending on the school year.
Additional enrichment activities for all students include Star Lab, field trips, assemblies and service learning activities such as our 5th grade adopt a grandparent program.
Leadership development opportunities are also available for interested students. These include Safety Patrol (grades 6-8) and Student Council (grades 4-8).
Students whose cognitive scores, achievement and performance distinguish them, as well as, above their peers can be referred and identified at all grade levels. Students who are identified as eligible are identified to their teachers as needing and extending a challenge.
