Where is FAV Checkout?
FAV Checkout is in the Auditorium Building in room 130. If you need directions please call 401.454.6237 or please reference the campus maps available through my.risd.edu.
What is FAV Checkout?
FAV Equipment Checkout is an equipment resource center that checks out film, video, and animation equipment to students actively taking courses in the Film, Animation, Video Department and supports training and equipment usage in FAV courses.
What are FAV Checkout’s hours of operation?
FAV Checkout Hours
Monday: 9AM to 1:30PM and 2:30PM to 5PM
Tuesday: 9AM to 1:30PM and 2:30PM to 5PM
Wednesday: 9AM to 1:30PM and 2:30PM to 5PM
Thursday: 9AM to 1:30PM and 2:30PM to 5PM
Friday: 9AM to 1:30PM and 2:30PM to 5PM
Closed for Lunch Everyday: 1:30PM to 2:30PM
How can I checkout equipment?
You can checkout equipment by coming to FAV Checkout in AUD 130 and requesting the equipment you want to checkout in person, if the equipment is available we will check it out to you.
How can I reserve equipment?
You can reserve equipment using our Reservation Portal. Here is a link to the Reservation Portal.
If I am not currently taking an FAV course can I Checkout Equipment? What if I am currently enrolled in an FAV course for next semester, but not this semester?
No, to check out any equipment from FAV Checkout you must be actively enrolled in and taking an FAV course. If you are enrolled in an FAV course next semester you will be able to check out equipment when you are actively taking the course next semester.
If I am enrolled in the FAV Major as a full time student, but am not currently enrolled in or actively taking an FAV course this semester can I checkout equipment?
No, even if you are enrolled in the major, to check out any equipment from FAV Checkout you must be actively enrolled in and taking an FAV course. If you are enrolled in an FAV course next semester you will be able to check out equipment when you are actively taking the course next semester.
What happens if I miss my reservation pick-up time?
If you miss your reservation pick-up time we will hold your reservation for one hour past your scheduled pick-up time before it is canceled. For example, if you schedule your pick-up for 3PM your reservation will not be canceled until 4PM. If you know you will be late or might miss your time to pick-up your reservation, please reach out to us either at favcheckout@risd.edu or 401.454.6237 so we can change your pick-up time or help in any other way.
What happens if I miss my equipment return time?
If you miss your equipment return time you will receive a reminder email that you have missed your return time and that you have equipment to return. After an hour has passed from your initial scheduled return time you will receive a late strike. If you receive three late strikes your FAV Checkout privileges will be revoked. If you know you will be late or might miss your return time, please reach out to us either at favcheckout@risd.edu or 401.454.6237 so we can potentially move your return time if possible or help in any other way.
How will I know if I have missed my return or pick-up? Do I have to check my email?
If you have missed a pick-up or return time we will email you a reminder before canceling the reservation or sending out a late strike. Our primary way of communication is by email so please check your email regularly.
What happens if I get three strikes?
If you receive three strikes your checkout privileges will be revoked and you will no longer be able to checkout equipment from FAV Checkout.
How will I know if I get/have three strikes?
You will receive an email from the favcheckout@risd.edu email after your initial overdue email that will have listed the number of strikes you currently have.
What should I do if I know I am going to miss my pick-up/return time?
If you know you will be late or might miss your pick-up or return time, please reach out to us either at favcheckout@risd.edu or 401.454.6237 so we can potentially move your pick-up or return time if possible or help in any other way.
How long can I checkout equipment for?
FAV Checkout’s equipment loan period is 1 business day. As an example: If you check out equipment on a Tuesday it will be due back on Wednesday. If you check out equipment on a Friday it will be due back on a Monday.
Can I have equipment out for longer than that?
If the equipment is available, you can renew your checkout for one additional business day one time. Renewals are not guaranteed and FAV Checkout reserves the privilege to deny equipment renewals due any of the following reasons: limited equipment availability, overdue equipment, or revoked checkout privileges. Do not assume you will be able to keep your equipment past its return time. Please remember that classes and other students may be waiting for the equipment you have out.
What if I need equipment for even longer than that?
For longer, extended checkout’s, we have an Extended Reservation Request Form available in person at FAV Checkout. The Extended Equipment Reservation requests will be granted at the discretion of the student's FAV Class Professor and FAV Checkout’s Manager. The Equipment Reservation Request Form is not intended to request renewals or extensions on gear that is currently checked out.
How can I check which equipment I have access to or have been demoed on?
To check which equipment you have been demoed/have access to by either checking your Webcheckout Patron Portal profile, under the "Access" tab or by contacting us at favcheckout@risd.edu or at 401.454.623.
How can I check which equipment needs to be demoed by FAV Demo?
Here is a link to the list of equipment that needs to be demoed by FAV Demo’s manager. Please feel free to cross reference with your access list or contact us at favcheckout@risd.edu or 401.454.6237 and we can check for you.
The reservation portal isn’t working, can you just make a reservation for me?
If you are having an issue making a reservation though the reservation portal please email us at favcheckout@risd.edu or lpalmer@risd.edu. If you are having an issue reserving the equipment, it is likely you might not be the only one and we want to make sure that any and all issues are resolved. Please send over as much information, including any screenshots, error messages, etc…, about the error as possible so that we can help.
What is the latest time I can pick-up/return equipment?
The latest we can schedule your equipment pick-up or return is 1 hour before we close. We close every day at 5pm so our latest return time is 4PM.
How many allocations/checkouts/reservations can I have at a time?
Students can have one active checkout at a time. Any equipment from a previous checkout must be returned for students to checkout any other equipment/start a new checkout. Any additional checkouts/allocations can be given at the discretion of FAV Checkout’s manager, based on need or extenuation circumstances.
How early can I make a reservation?
You can make a reservation 14 days in advance of your requested pick-up date.
How late can I make a reservation?
Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of your requested pick-up time. For example if you are looking to pick-up equipment at 10:30AM on a Thursday you need to make sure your reservation is in the system/submitted by 10:30AM the Wednesday before.
I tried to make a reservation for pick-up less than 24 hours before my requested pick-up time and wasn’t able to. Can I still get the equipment or make a reservation?
We will not be able to make a reservation for you with less than 24 hours notice. You can still absolutely come to FAV Checkout and checkout the equipment you wanted to reserve in person, if it is available for checkout.
Can someone else pick-up equipment for me?
Yes, as long as you email us beforehand letting us know who is picking up your equipment for you. If you do not communicate with us before hand
Can someone return my equipment for me?
Yes. If something is missing from your return or if there is another issue we will email you directly to let you know.
A piece of equipment I want to checkout is not available. Can you tell me who has it checked out?
No. We can not give out any information about students, including what equipment other people may or may not have.
How will I know if I will be able to checkout equipment over a break?
We will send out an email with the reservation form 2 weeks in advance of the break letting eligible students know about the possibility and with details about how to reserve equipment for the break.
What type of insurance do I need to checkout equipment for the break?
Personal Property insurance is required to checkout any equipment during breaks. Many students use College Student Insurance to provide them with necessary coverage. Please email lpalmer@risd.edu if you have any other questions about equipment insurance.
What happens if I damage or lose equipment that is checked out to me?
As per the equipment liability agreement, “If I break or lose gear, I am responsible for the actual cost of repairs or replacement gear. My checkout privileges may be suspended until the incident is resolved.”
What happens if I damage or lose equipment that is checked out to another student or another student breaks equipment checkout to me?
As per the equipment liability agreement, “I am responsible for the equipment I check out. If I lend the gear I checked out to another student, and they damage or lose it, I will likely be held responsible for repair or replacement cost. That said, FAV will consider each case individually and assess responsibility based on the circumstances of each incident. Shoots are often team projects, so using gear that others have checked out is not uncommon. If I should break or lose gear that is checked out to another student, I recognize that I will be held responsible for my actions and associated costs.”
