The popular Raspberry Pi family of small single-board computers was developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation with the intention of stimulating the teaching of basic computer science in schools and first introduced 2012. From their start, they were targeted as a low-cost educational platform with friendly documentation and an eye toward beginners and non-experts alike. The boards run Linux and have rich on-board features, like audio, HDMI video output and Ethernet. They also offer expanded capability with add-ons like cameras or even other circuit boards (called HATs) that can provide new functionality or even opportunities for custom-designed electronics. With Raspberry Pi, there is no limit to what YOU can do.
The original Raspberry Pi has a Broadcom BCM2835 system on a chip (SoC), which includes an ARM1176JZF-S 700 MHz processor, VideoCore IV GPU,[9] and 256 megabytes of RAM. It does not include a built-in hard disk or solid-state drive, but uses an SD card for booting and long-term storage. The Foundation's goal is to offer two versions, priced at US$ 25 and US$ 35.
