Curriculum

ELW Orchestra Grading Policy:

Orchestra Grades are calculated based on a total points system under 2 grading catagories as established by the ELW School Grading Policy and based on the R2 10-point letter grade scale.  

Grading Categories are: 

• Major  (Performance Assessment, Concerts)- 50%

• Minor (Written Work, Participation)- 50%

Orchestra Make Up  Policy: All make up work must be completed by the end of each quarter. Any missing  not made up by the end of the quarter will be changed to a zero. Students must come in to the orchestra room to see Mrs. Gibbs before or after school when practice (tutoring) times are offered to complete make-ups.

Course Recommendation Requirements:  

• Students who do not receive a passing grade of 60% or higher  will not be recommended for the next level of orchestra for the following year. 

• Students must be able to perform all necessary skills learned in their current level of orchestra in order to move on to the next level. 

• Students must complete all 3 consecutive levels of orchestra to continue with orchestra at any R2 High School.

• Students may NOT join any ELW music class (orchestra, band, or chorus) in the 7th or 8th grade without having taken the previous (6th &/or 7th) grade prerequisite or prerequisite private lessons with director approval.
