Hello and Welcome! My name is Elizabeth Gibbs, this is my 14th year at E. L. Wright and am very excited for all we have in store this year! At home, I have my wonderful husband, Hunter (who is often seen moving many a chair and stand at our concerts!), our 9 year old son, Gabriel, our 6 year old daughter, Penelope, and our 3 year old son, Sebastian!
I received my degree in Music Education from Winthrop University. The first question students always ask me is what my main instrument is -- I am a cellist! That said, I am still an active professional and as such I am a "constantly practicing and improving musician" myself. Since moving to
Columbia, I've played in a variety of ensembles including the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra, Union Symphony Orchestra, and Augusta Symphony, as well as gigging in the Charlotte and Columbia areas. In addition to teaching at E. L. Wright, I also run a private cello studio from my home and direct the top orchestra for the Arts+ Summer String Orchestra Camp in Charlotte, NC.
I strive to to give students a fun and safe place to be exactly who they are, help them to make something together, and lead them to realize how amazing they are and what they can do with just a little hard work! Musically, my goal is to help students develop into their best musician-selves, and to inspire them to be lifelong music lovers and advocates. I believe that even the students that do not become professional musicians will have learned invaluable skills through their involvement in our orchestra program. I believe this not because of some lofty vision, but because that is the reason I am standing in the classroom today. Music is a powerful thing. I am looking forward to a year
full of learning and fun!
