Coach Kleyman Scholarship

"You don't have to be good, you just have to have fun" ~ Rick Kleyman

Rick Kleyman coached cross country and track and field for 50 years, 32 of which were at Armstrong.  His cross country teams (both boys and girls) made 43 appearances at the State Meet, had 18 Conference Championships, and three State Championships. In his many years of coaching, he touched the lives of thousands of young people. Rick was passionate about improvement and using running and sport to build character and resilience in kids. Through Rick’s coaching, his runners learned to be disciplined, devoted and dedicated to their team. These skills helped these athletes to navigate future challenges and be successful citizens.

Coach Kleyman passed away in 2021 and to recognize his legacy at Armstrong and beyond, the  Kleyman Cross Country Scholarship was created. This scholarship awards one male and one female cross country runner to be used toward postsecondary education expenses.

Our goal is to raise money to build a well endowed and sustainable scholarship fund. When our fund reaches $25,000 we can award two $500 scholarships each year. In the spring of 2022 and 2023 we were able to award two $250 scholarships. We are very close to being able to award $500 scholarships this year. Please visit our website and donate today.
