Spelling Lists for the Entire Year

Dates and the challenge words will be updated

to match this year's calendar, as the year progresses. Basic spelling lists are current.

Lists titled "Review" may or may not be used, as the need arises.

This week, the student will do columns 1, 2, 3, and 4 at home on Monday, for homework. They need to return it to me on Tuesday so that I can mark it in my book. Then I will return it to them to take home and put in their Spelling 3-ring binder.

Dear Parents,

Beginning on Monday, January_____, there will be a change in the students' spelling lists. The students will begin receiving spelling lists with 20 words and 5 challenge words. The list for January 9th will be titled List 11/12. Subsequent lists will also have two numbers --List 13/14, List 15/16, List 17/18, etc.

At this point in the school year, most of the students are ready for this challenge and it helps to advance their spelling skills, significantly. The words are not difficult, and are worked with daily, at school. They also encounter the same words in their reading and writing. Moving up to 20 words per week seldom causes difficulty for a child. If it does cause difficulty or undue stress for any particular child, individual accommodations can be made.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns,

Mrs. McGhie
