Term 2 Y5 & 6

Term 2

Week 4-5:

Focus: How does our fundraising in NZ impact food and way of life for a child in Malawi? Begin planning DLO to be shared next week Thursday 2pm. DLO rubric linked to at bottom of page. The big idea around this DLO is to summarise learning to date, be creative in your sharing!

(From week 3)

Present your conclusion re Malawi and Aotearoa food sources and daily life orally to the extension group.

Complete comments that include your reflections on at least 3 other students in the group

Week 2-3:

Blog post about Malawi and Aotearoa menu (typical daily meals)

Compare and contrast:

Comparison and contrast are ways of looking at objects, events, practices etc and thinking about how they are alike and different.

For instance, our menus are alike because they are kinds of food, but there are many ways that they are different. For instance, they belong to different food groups. Some must be cooked before eating, and some can be eaten raw. When you write comparison and contrast, you will pay attention to these kinds of details. Using these details what conclusion can you draw? Include your conclusion in your blog post.

Week 1:

Food Diary:

*You need to keep a record of your main meals over the next 4 weeks. This is an important part of our investigations that will lead us into learning more about our eating and living habits in comparison to the children we will be supporting through the 20 hour famine.

**Learn: using keywords find out more about what a child in Malawi eats in a typical day,

makes notes of what you find in a google doc titled 'Malawi your name'

***Create:

1.Menu for a child in Aotearoa (your typical dinner)

2.Menu for a child in Malawi

Remember to include extra details in your menu to help the diner understand where the foods come from and any extra detail you think would be interesting or important to know.

Please complete this survey every day for one week.

Talk to your parents about the 20 hour famine. This year will be running our annual sleepover on Friday 23 - Saturday 24th May 2014. If you would like to be part of this, please ask your parents if you are allowed to. You do not need to register online as Mrs Tele'a has already registered our school team. We will have permission slips and booklets ready for our team beginning of term 2.

Guest Speakers: we will be having visits from the World Vision Ambassador team. Their experiences out on the field they bring to PES! Be very excited extension group!
