Using the visual mihi, how have these four or five important features influenced my whanau's past and present time?

Which has had the greatest impact? The least? What do you have control over as an individual? Collectively as a whanau?

Discussion

Introductions: who am I? Name, family, background - culture, religion, other important factors in your family’s past.

In what ways do these factors shape how you and your family live today?

Product: presentation of visual mihi along with speech before the extension group.

Communicate through graphics your personal mihi that include important features of your life - people, place and past. Culture(s) in your family, religion, an event that changed your family’s history?

Purpose: We will learn about past societies and communities and how they functioned. How the diverse cultures and identities of people within those communities has impact on participation of groups and individuals. This task begins with our society and community….

Task guidelines (due: Thursday 27th, 2.30pm)

1. Decide on 4 important features of you and your family that you want to share with a global audience (Schools in NZ and Australia will be interacting with you). Aspects of mihi learnt in Te Reo Maori is a good place to start.

2. Create symbols/illustrations that reflect these 4 things - use paint/draw programme of your choice

3. Post these graphics in comic life layout

4. Export your complete visual montage in comic life to images ‘tiff’

5. Post your visual mihi online - flickr (extpes@yahoo.com, password from Mrs Tele'a)

6. Post notes and explanation of mihi on flickr

7. Comment on at least 4 of your peers montage in flickr
