General Information

Pinelands Regional provides health insurance through the School Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).  There are three (3) plans to choose from.  Health benefits become effective on September 1st for those 10-Month employees beginning work at the start of the contract year (September 1), otherwise there will be a 60-day waiting period.  We do not offer a separate prescription plan.  Prescriptions are covered within the health plan. Dependent children are covered through the end of the calendar year (December 31st) of the year in which they turn 26, subject to rules set forth by the SHIF.  Open enrollment is held once per year in May for changes to be effective July 1st

Do you wish to waive your health insurance coverage?

Employees have the option of waiving their health insurance coverage through Pinelands and receiving monetary compensation in December and June (waiver incentive) as per Board Policy 3421.10/4421.10.  Employees who waive their health insurance must RENEW their waiver during the open enrollment period annually.

Children up to age 31 (Chapter 375)

Under Chapter 375, P.L. 2005, members may extend health insurance coverage for their over-age children (26+) until age 31 as long as specific conditions are met. The covered parent is responsible for the entire cost of coverage for the eligible dependent, and will be billed directly for the coverage cost.

Overage children with disabilities

An overage child who is disabled due to mental illness, mental retardation, or a physical disability and dependent upon a member for support, can remain covered as a dependent if the child's disabled status is approved by the plan.
