Computer and Software Engineering
Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSE) is a computer science course for high schools students. Students work in teams to develop computational thinking and problem solving skills. Structured activities progress to open-ended projects and problems that build project management, documentation, and communication skills. Students in the course use several programming languages to foster computational thinking and creativity and to build excitement about computing. Students also learn about the impact of computing across all career paths and consider societal issues raised by computing.
The course assumes no prior knowledge of programming. However, the rigorous content and open-ended problems in CSE can also engage students who have already been introduced to the field of computer science. Building enthusiasm for CS among students is a primary course goal, and the course structure provides content that will be fresh and exciting.
If you are late you need to have a note from a member of the faculty.
Unexcused tardies will result in teacher detention.
2. No electronic devices are to be used during class. Use will result in confiscation and parental/A.P. notification. Your device will be returned at the end of the school day. Refusal to relinquish the device when asked will be treated as insubordination and immediate referral to the A.P.
3. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. All students are expected to respect one another and the teacher.
Students may bring a writing utensil, a separate notebook to class everyday. Students should have an IPad or other approved device for accessing the course website.
Daily assignments can be expected and must be submitted by the due date unless you have an excused absence, whereby the assignment will be due the class after you return. Assignments will be checked/collected randomly. When assignments are not collected it is the students responsibility to make sure the concepts practiced in the assignment understood. Time, at the beginning of class, will be allotted for discussion/clarification. It is students responsibility to turn in any make-up work by the allotted due date. Late assignments may be turned in for partial credit. To receive full credit for homework, students must show ALL work.
Grades
Quarter grades will be determined by adding the total number of points earned in a marking period and dividing by the total possible points. This will result in approximately the following percentages:
Homework 50%
Projects 50%
Semester grades are according to the following percentages:
Q1 = 45%
Q2 = 45%
SE = 10% (Semester exams will be cumulative)
Help
I am available for help during Block 3 on Blue and White days. I am also available
during Bulldog Block, before school (7:30am) and after school (best to make an
appointment ahead of time). You are welcome to use the classroom computers
when you have time, regardless of when I have class. However, my availability to help
will be limited during my class time.
