Advanced Math Placement

Welcome to AMP 1. You are about to begin your high school math studies with the goal of

completing Calculus BC by graduation. In AMP 1 we will cover topics from Algebra II (see syllabus). The rigors of this course, and in each subsequent AMP class, requires a high level of self-motivation and discipline. I look forward to helping each student meet their goals in this class.

Expectations and Procedures

1. Students are expected to be in the classroom, heading toward their seat when the bell rings. Any student not in the room when the block begins will be marked tardy. My tardy policy is as follows:

If you are late you need to have a note from a member of the faculty.

Unexcused tardies will result in teacher detention 15 minutes plus 1 minute for each

minute you are late.

2. No electronic devices are to be used during class. Use will result in confiscation and parental/A.P. notification. Your device will be returned at the end of the school day. Refusal to relinquish the device when asked will be treated as insubordination and immediate referral to the A.P.

3. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. All students are expected to respect one another and the teacher.

Materials

Students must bring a writing utensil (preferably a pencil), a separate math notebook to class everyday.

Students should have a graphing calculator, at minimum a TI-83+.

Assignments

Daily assignments can be expected and must be submitted by the due date unless you have an excused absence, whereby the assignment will be due the class after you return. Assignments will be checked/collected randomly. When assignments are not collected it is the students responsibility to make sure the concepts practiced in the assignment understood. Time, at the beginning of class, will be allotted for discussion/clarification. It is students responsibility to turn in any make-up work by the allotted due date. Late assignments may be turned in for partial credit. To receive full credit for homework, students must show ALL work.

Assessments

Quizzes and tests will be given regularly. Tests are cumulative. During assessments students are not allowed to talk, leave their seat, look in the direction of other students, or have unauthorized study materials. A violation of any of these rules will result in immediate forfeiture of the test, a grade of zero, and a phone call to parents. It is my policy to NOT give retakes except under extreme circumstances.

Grades

Quarter grades will be determined by adding the total number of points earned in a marking period and dividing by the total possible points. This will result in approximately the following percentages:

Homework 20%

Quizzes 35%

Exams 45%

Semester grades are according to the following percentages:

Q1 = 45%

Q2 = 45%

SE = 10% (Semester exams will be cumulative)

Help

I am available for help during Block 1 on both Blue and White days as well as Block 2 on White days. I am also available before and after school (please see me to confirm your attendance).
