CEI 2010 Student Evaluation

From CEI2010, I learnt lots. How to communicate with foreigners, learnt what a good presentation is, ask high order questions in the presentation, get the experience from joining international meetings. In the cultural performance night, except knowing foreign culture, I also learnt team work. If one in the team doesn’t cooperate with the others, the show cannot be good.

In the field trip, I have gone to the rice field in Tumpang, and understand the rice field ecosystem. Farmers grow grass around the field. When the farmers are harvesting, insects jump into grasses and return when there is food. The predators can eat pests. Plants can grow healthy without chemicals.

記得未來到印尼前，我曾經有無盡的擔心：擔心會水土不服，擔心會有這樣那樣的情況出現。我甚至擔心會因為參加了會議而錯失了參加試後活動的機會。不過經過這次青年會議後，又有別一番的體會。

首先，我的英語會話有明顯的進步。雖然我就讀於英語中學，但無論在日常生活中也很少會用英語溝通，因為身邊總有懂得用粵語的人。可是在這次會議中，身旁的人都不懂說粵語，唯有用英文才能與他們溝通，所以用多了英語，英語能力自然進步。

第二，這次活動加強了我的社交技巧。要跟陌生人打開話題，最重要就是主動。這種主動我也做得到，不過打過招呼後卻不懂得繼續話題。原來可以用反問，重覆等。

有一天，我和張芷茵同學跟一個俄羅斯女孩討論「如何鼓勵市民到國家公園觀賞動物而不在教育中心觀賞」。我們大家的母語都不是英語，結果我們整整討論了三十分鐘才能達成共識，這比香港的英語會話考試時間更長。不過自此以後，我對香港的小組討論考核的自信也高了！

我發覺自己在社交方面的能力不知不覺地提升，在CEI 2010 的七天裡，我認識了好幾個朋友：有香港的、有印尼的、也有土耳其的。除了香港的朋友外，我在這七天就已經習慣了用英語與他們溝通，雖然總有聽不明白，說不明的地方，但至少，以前害怕與陌生人溝通的我，已經勇敢地作出了很多的嘗試，從生活中細微的部分去打開話題，結識朋友。認識香港的朋友時，就因為我的一句：「一齊吃早餐好嗎？」，我們便開始熟絡起來。

說一個簡單的事例，你就會明白我在會議前後的分別。記得在出發那天，我坐飛機時覺得有點冷，老師叫我自己用英語向空中小姐拿一張毛毯，我還藉詞不懂英語。其實我不是不懂，而是不夠膽去嘗試呢！但回程時我不再害怕了！我不止拿毛毯，還主動向空中小姐拿可樂添飲等呢！

This seven-day trip has gone as quick as a shooter bullet. In these seven days we have shared a lot of lovely moments with each other, and surely have learnt a lot too, like communication skill, how to take good care of others. Almost all the goals in the expectation are achieved at the end. Also, there were some booms to me more than I expected, for example, explored foreign culture and learnt how to respect them. Also, I know that confidence is vitally important to a successful person. If you are side-tracked by others easily, you could never concentrate. How would success come?

還有九個小時就回到香港了！這個旅程開始的時候，曾埋怨過印尼的設施不足，食物不合口味，但現在，我卻希望在印尼多玩幾天。七天時間說長不長，說短不短，卻令我體會到很多事。

我仍記得印尼人在我們初到步的時候是如何幫助我們找房間、拿行李；我仍記得兩天的戶外考察中，當地村民好客的招待，他們明亮的笑容，向我伸出的溫熱的手，至今仍令我難忘，值得我再三回味。他們好客，樂於助人的性格更反映出香港人的冷漠。香港人予人的感覺就是步伐很快，做任何事情都要想過、計算過。在這方面，我們應向印尼人學習。

除了預備馬蹄蟹的滙報外，戶外考察後我們也要做一個滙報。此事令我對「準備」有了全新的感受。以前，我覺得「準備」一個滙報，就是讀好稿就可以了。但是在這七天中，我發現這是通通不夠的。不但要讀好稿，還要把整個滙報的過程在腦海中模擬一次，確保不會發生不必要的錯誤和想好可能會發生的情況和改善的方法，才能減少錯誤的發生。

在活動中，我亦加強了與人溝通的技巧和對英文的運用，還學會如何跟陌生人打開話題，為我的在新高中的學習和日後的工作提供了一個很好的訓練。

這一次不但是一次很好的旅行，更是一次很好的學習機會。由於時間關係，令我錯過了一些學校的活動，如全校閱讀日。但我不後悔，因為我在這次印尼之行學到的，正是其他活動不能給予的。能夠參與是此活動是我的榮幸，亦感謝學校提供一個如此難得的學習機會。提供金錢上、物質上的援助，令我們的滙報能做得盡善盡美，為香港爭光。

From these days, we had presentation on our research, field trip, discussion and presentation of our field trip. Certainly, the most unforgettable event was the cultural performance night. We all participated actively and enjoyed the events and activities.

CEI2010 can raise our awareness on environmental protection. Furthermore, it gave us a lot of chances to see how wonderful the natural environment is. For example, fieldtrips to mangroves, agro-forestry, volcano, tropical rainforest and the rice field, these amazing natural systems are hardly to be found in Hong Kong. It lets us know that the important of protecting the environment and understand biodiversity is very important to the world.

Time flies and the CEI conference has eventually come to the end after the closing ceremony of CEI 2010 and the farewell party. It is undoubted that CEI 2010 is one of my greatest experience I ever had.

CEI provides an opportunity to strengthen my leadership skill and communication skill, also to broaden my horizon and to learn more on producing good presentation with powerful content.

It is always not an easy task to be a good leader, even for those people in professional. They may be still finding ways to be a good leader. It is lucky that I can take part in this conference to lead three of my schoolmates from junior forms to complete this task. This time, I allocated their work in different orientation, guide them to look for the answer and appreciate others’ work. Most of the tasks were done as expected. However, if I had one more chance, I would like to give more praise to my groupmates so that they may work in a better atmosphere.

Good communication among groupmates is very important in the team. As a team, groupmates do take roles in order to achieve the final common goal. Good communication is the only way to prevent misunderstanding. The goal can only be achieved when all members do the correct things. As an example, in a presentation task, English is not our mother language but we still try our best to communicate. Through the presentation was not totally perfect, we can correct most problems with cooperation. Our groupmates made decision rapidly and accurately which brought back our discussion. Decision making is important in a group. It must be accurate and prompt in order to complete the task in its shortest time.

Wong Chun Hei

I really want to say that I really enjoy CEI 2010. It makes youngsters gathered from different parts of the world. It provided a great opportunity for us to get along with people from other countries. Although seven days are not a long period of time, an invaluable friendship is already built. Alan and I have met few Indonesians from field trip. They took good care of us and always asked us if we need help. Moreover, they translated their local language for us when we felt confused. What’s more, last night we didn’t sleep because our meeting ended at 1:00 am and we have to wake up at 4:00 am. Some of our friends were even willing to stay over night with us and play and chat with us. That’s make Alan and I feel we are being treated as invaluable friends of them.
